CO2BioClean GmbH is an innovative clean-tech start-up that is developing a licensable technology for converting industrial carbon dioxide emissions into biodegradable polymers. The polymers (PHA) can be used in packaging, textiles or agricultural products, for example. By using carbon dioxide as a raw material, the process has a cost advantage over other bioplastics.
The technology is based on a protected fermentation process in which bacteria convert the carbon dioxide into high-quality bioplastics. The CO2BioClean process thus combats climate change and the discharge of non-degradable plastics into the environment and oceans.
CO2BioClean operates a research facility at Industriepark Höchst to demonstrate the feasibility of the technology under industrial conditions.
