An innovative nanomedical product has been manufactured at Industriepark Höchst since the start of 2014: SIR-Spheres, a minimally invasive cancer treatment developed and provided by Sirtex Medical Ltd. The SIR-Spheres procedure infuses millions of radiactive microspheres into the liver where they selectively target liver tumors with a high dose of internal radiation while sparing healthy tissue.
Sirtex signed a ten-year-contract with Infraserv Höchst with an option to renew in order to benefit from a new location with shorter supply distances to European markets. Infraserv Höchst invested EUR 780,000 to expand the one-story research building from about 530 m² to around 770 m². Another EUR 1.2 million went towards the design and installation of clean rooms as a house-in-house solution. Infraserv Höchst completed the entire project in 15 short months, from planning to implementation.
